FedEx and Feed the Children provide essentials to Washington, D.C. families
FedEx Cares, in collaboration with Feed the Children and Central Union Mission, hosted a walk-up food and essentials distribution event at the Central Union Mission in Washington, D.C. The event served 400 families and provided each family with a 25-pound box of food, a 15-pound box of hygiene products, and an Avon box filled with cosmetics.
With one in 10 people in Washington, D.C. currently facing food insecurity, the event aimed to fight childhood hunger. Continued price hikes at the grocery store have made food itself less affordable for lower-income families. Since 2021, food prices have increased by nearly 17% according to the USDA, and average rent costs were reported to rise by 8.6% between 2022 and 2023.
“Hunger and food insecurity are often invisible,” said Travis Arnold, Feed the Children president and CEO. “The need for food and other assistance is significant in Washington, D.C., and we are very thankful for our partnership with FedEx. Together, we are providing hope and resources to children and their families.”
FedEx has partnered with Feed the Children since 2022 to provide food and resources across the United States, Kenya, Guatemala, and the Philippines.
"Together with Feed the Children and Central Union Mission, FedEx is removing barriers and making a positive impact for families in the communities where we live and work,” said Kraig Robertson, Managing Director of Air, Ground, Freight and Services at FedEx. “We are honored to collaborate with these great organizations to make a difference.”
