The Caribbean – Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa was a powerful Category 5 hurricane that made a record-setting landfall in Jamaica on October 28, 2025, causing catastrophic damage and many deaths in the Caribbean. After devastating Jamaica, it weakened but continued to impact Cuba, the Bahamas, and passed near Bermuda. The storm's rapid intensification and slow movement led to extensive flooding and destruction, with damage costs potentially reaching billions of dollars.
- Direct Relief, through its annual Hurricane Preparedness Program, made possible by long-standing support from FedEx, pre-positioned 11 Hurricane Preparedness Packs throughout the Caribbean. Each Pack contains medical supplies to care for as many as 3,000 people for 30 days. Learn more here.
- Team Rubicon is making use of their Ready Reserve fund, supported by FedEx, to send medical volunteers to increase response capacity of local health providers.
- Heart to Heart International sent 53,400 hygiene kits through FedEx to The United Nations Population Fund in Jamaica
- International Medical Corps--with support from FedEx--established a temporary outpatient facility at Mandeville Regional Hospital and deployed a medical team to help manage a post-storm surge of health needs. As needs stabilized, International Medical Corps shifted focus to restoring health access at other storm-affected health facilities through the distribution of essential medicines, medical equipment and supplies. International Medical Corps has also shipped 2,700 hygiene kits and 2,500 wound care kits with FedEx's support.
- Rise Against Hunger (RAH), with shipping support from FedEx, sent 900 hygiene kits, over-the-counter medications for both children and adults, and essential supplies for infants and toddlers including diapers, baby food, and baby wipes to RAH's partner providing on the ground emergency relief to those affected by Hurricane Melissa. From there, RAH's partner coordinated distribution to families in Montego Bay and Bethel Town, Jamaica.
