2023 Q3 FedEx disaster response updates

FedEx supports multiple nonprofits, including the American Red Cross, Direct Relief, Heart to Heart International, The Salvation Army, Team Rubicon, and World Central Kitchen, that work to help communities recover from natural disasters. By providing charitable donations and in-kind shipping, FedEx continuously helps these organizations deliver critical aid, like medical supplies and meals, to those who need it most.

Through our company’s Delivering for Good program, we work with global disaster relief nonprofit organizations year-round to respond when catastrophes impact communities around the world.

Recently, FedEx and nonprofit organizations it supports have been on the front lines, delivering essentials to help those in need.

Hurricane Idalia

We extend our deepest sympathies to our team members and communities affected by Hurricane Idalia. We are currently supporting relief efforts through our longstanding relationships with the American Red Cross, Direct Relief, Team Rubicon, The Salvation Army, and World Central Kitchen. These humanitarian relief organizations, as well as other organizations we work with, are assessing the situation in affected areas and supporting critical needs for medicine, shelter, hygiene kits, food, and water. FedEx is maintaining frequent communication with them to ensure that our resources are deployed most effectively.

  • FedEx shipped more than 6,000 hygiene kits on behalf of Heart to Heart International.
  • On August 30th, FedEx shipped 10,000 FedEx breakfast and lunch kits on behalf of The Salvation Army.
  • With assistance from FedEx, Direct Relief pre-positioned 13 hurricane prep packs in Florida prior to Hurricane Idalia’s landfall. Since landfall, FedEx is helping transport 244 emergency medical backpacks requested by health care facilities in the affected areas.  Each hurricane preparedness module contains enough medical supplies to treat 100 patients for conditions ranging from basic trauma injuries to chronic illnesses for a 72-hour period. Each emergency backpack contains enough supplies to treat as many as 500 people depending on circumstances as some patients may need multiple items from the backpack. The packs and backpacks were assembled with financial support from FedEx.

We ask FedEx team members to refrain from collecting donated items, as FedEx does not provide charitable shipping for collection drives and donated items. If you would like to contribute to the relief efforts, you may volunteer or donate cash directly to an organization of your choice. Learn more about FedEx's Humanitarian Relief efforts here.

Hawaii – fires

We extend our deepest sympathies to our team members and communities affected by the fires in Hawaii.

The global relief agencies we support year round are continually assessing the situation on the ground so they may provide the help most needed. We are in frequent communication with them to ensure that our resources are deployed most effectively.

  • FedEx shipped more than 4,000 hygiene kits in addition to medical supplies on behalf of Heart to Heart International.
  • On August 22nd, FedEx shipped four pallets of material to create a food production line on behalf of World Central Kitchen.
  • On August 22nd, FedEx shipped six pallets of hygiene kits on behalf of Heart to Heart International.
  • On August 18th, FedEx shipped Unite to Light power banks requested by Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies on behalf of Direct Relief. They will be distributed to patients, community members, and medical staff.
  • On August 15th, FedEx shipped four pallets of cooking supplies for Operation BBQ Relief. Supplies include coolers, spices, and aluminum pans and lids that should help serve meals for several weeks to come.
  •  On August 15th, FedEx shipped two pallets of hygiene kits for Heart to Heart International.
  • Since August 10th, FedEx has shipped 57 shipments to Maui on behalf of World Central Kitchen. These shipments include communication equipment to help WCK's team as they respond across the disaster area, cooking supplies, tents, and other items for World Central Kitchen distribution sites where families can get hot meals and rest. As of August 25, WCK served more than 71,000 hot meals to first responders and residents displaced by the fires on the Big Island and Maui.

  • FedEx provides a large donation of cash and in-kind shipping annually to the Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP). This support helps provide a reliable funding base for disaster relief services that enables the Red Cross to respond immediately, meeting the needs of individuals and families affected by disaster. To help enable their immediate response to the fires in Maui, The Red Cross used their in-kind shipping services to transport urgently needed communications equipment to the area.

We ask FedEx team members to refrain from collecting donated items, as FedEx does not provide charitable shipping for collection drives and donated items. If you would like to contribute to the relief efforts, please consider donating cash directly to a relief organization of your choice. Learn more about FedEx's Humanitarian Relief efforts here.
