Providing comfort and hope through food

On World Food Day, FedEx recognizes a non-profit who goes above and beyond to deliver comfort and nourishment to people all around the globe: World Central Kitchen.

With Chef José Andrés at the helm, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is often first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. The organization builds resilient food systems with locally led solutions. With support from FedEx, World Central Kitchen has responded to many recent disasters including the Bangladesh Monsoon Floods; Buffalo, NY Mass Shooting; Pernambuco, Brazil Floods; Kentucky Floods; and Hurricane Ian directly impacting more than 2.7 million people since May, 2022 and nearly 7 million people since 2021.

After a disaster, food is the fastest way to rebuild a sense of community. World Central Kitchen puts people back to work preparing food while ensuring those impacted by crisis have a hot, nourishing meal. They source and hire locally whenever possible, to jump-start economic recovery through food.

World Central Kitchen also invested in their Food Producer Network to help create resilience ahead of the next disaster. They advocate for more hunger relief and better nutrition.

“When WCK mobilizes in response to disaster, it's critical we have the ability to get what we need on the ground quickly," said Maggie Leahy, Director of Donor Relations. "With support from FedEx, our teams have been able to transport much-needed supplies that have helped us serve hundreds of thousands of nourishing and comforting meals in recent months.”

FedEx supports World Central Kitchen as a part of the company’s FedEx Cares “Delivering for Good” initiative, in which FedEx lends its global network and unparalleled logistics expertise to organizations with mission-critical needs and helps communities before, during, and after crises.
