FedEx and Water Mission join forces to expand clean water access

While frequent handwashing has been recommended as an easy, effective way to stay safe and healthy from the coronavirus, there remain areas where access to clean water is an ongoing challenge. Without access to safe, clean water, clinics and hospitals cannot safely and effectively care for patients. As a result, the spread of viruses and rise of complications from non-COVID-19 diseases become significant.

In conjunction with the FedEx Cares 50 by 50 program, Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit that builds safe water, sanitation and hygiene solutions in developing countries and disaster areas, has been supporting locations around the globe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic through the in-kind shipments of WASH training solutions (water, sanitation and hygiene), customized to meet the needs of the community, and equipment to accompany essential training, where needed.

These combined efforts have totaled more than $250,000 and 91,000 pounds in donated supplies globally within the first three months of efforts fighting the pandemic. “Our work around the globe has been critical in helping areas lacking access to clean water, whether as a result of disaster impact or strained resources, prevent the spread of the virus,” said Water Mission President and COO George C. Greene, PE. “With the assistance of FedEx, we have been able to get these supplies to locations that need them most in the numerous areas we serve, quickly and safely, ensuring there’s no slow-down of ongoing on-the-ground efforts.”
