On October 17, I had the pleasure of volunteering at Texas Children's Hospital. The Periwinkle Foundation aids in the upkeep of the Arts In Medicine program there, where all art forms are offered and presented to the children receiving treatment for cancer/blood disease. Art has proven to heal many ailments and being able to play a role in helping children and their caretakers to enjoy as much of the day as possible is a blessing, indeed.

Next Step Shelter December

Every month, the ZHON station in Hawaii gathers up their recyclable and donates them to the Next Step Shelter. The Next Step Shelter is an organization connected to the Waikiki Health Center in Honolulu that provides a home for over 200 people that do not have a place to stay. The charity provides a place to live, food, and used clothing to these families as well as couples and singles staying there as well. They also provide 20 hour tutoring services for their inhabitants as well.

FedEx Government Services Answers the Call to Serve

Giving the gift of family is not just a slogan for the holidays, it is the principle that the Fisher House Foundation was founded on. Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. The Foundation’s impact reaches throughout the United States and across the “pond” into the United Kingdom. Fisher House has served approximately 277,000 families since opening their first two houses in 1991.

FedEx Freight Memphis Headquarters Assists the YWCA-Memphis Family Shelter

Team members at FedEx Freight Memphis Headquarters donated their time and items to the YWCA-Memphis Family Shelter. The YWCA- Memphis Family Shelter provides a safe haven for women who are victims of domestic violence and homelessness. FedEx Freight team members volunteered their time between both indoor and outdoor service projects by cleaning and organizing the children’s library, and sorting items in the clothes closet and several playrooms. Volunteers also helped with landscaping and mulched the shelter’s playground.

SHVA Helps Shriner’s Hospital for Children

On December 15th, 2016, SHVA (Shreveport, LA) Station Managers and employees assembled numerous Purple Tote Bags stuffed with Teddy Bears, arts and crafts items, coloring books, crayons, paint brushes, etc. for all the children in the Burn Unit at Shriner’s Hospital for Children. The Hospital specializes in burn injuries and has been a leader in burn care, research and education since opening in the mid-1960s. Thanks to the cutting-edge medical care provided at these hospitals, every year thousands of children have a greater chance of surviving from all types of burn injuries.
