Verrazano District and the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger

Oct 26, 2017

Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger has been around since 1998 and started out of a church basement. They are currently located in the heart of the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York and are now the largest pantry in Brooklyn. Bed-Stuy Campaign told us that they usually serve about 27,000 unduplicated individuals per month but their numbers go up by 1/3 at Thanksgiving.

Our team, the Verrazano District, chose this particular organization since it is within our district geographically, allowing us to make an impact in the community we work each and every day. In Brooklyn and all across New York City, we see people struggling to make ends meet, and asking for money to buy their next meal. This pantry helps in that capacity and hopefully gets those who are facing difficulties back on their feet. Our team contributed 26 Purple Tote Bags filled with canned goods for their food drive. We are fortunate to be working with such a great organization, knowing that our contributions will make a difference for those in need.

Thank you to the FedEx Cares United Way Campaign for reaching out to others around the world. For those people who are struggling, knowing that people want to help makes a big difference. For us, it is a great purpose to strive for in our everyday lives. We all work in sales and are used to negotiating a give and take relationship but it is very fulfilling to truly participate in charity by giving to someone who can never repay the favor. As Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.”
