UM, YWCA, RMH Donation Delivery - Purple Tote Bag Story Contest Finalist

Dec 20, 2016

The time has come once again, when the Technical Operations Aircraft Engineering (A/C Eng.) employees open their hearts as well as their wallets to help support those in need. This year, A/C Eng. collected and donated over 300 FedEx Purple Tote Bags filled to the top with supplies that aid not one, but three United Way affiliated charities. This year’s focus groups for the Air Operations Purple Totes were Memphis Union Mission, Ronald McDonald House, and the YWCA.

These three organizations were chosen due to the positive work they do in people’s lives throughout the greater Memphis area and in support of the FedEx Cares Five Pillars of Giving: Delivering for Good, Sustainable Transportation, Employment Pathways, Road Safety, and Global Entrepreneurship.

Memphis Union Mission acknowledges that they, “minister to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of men, women, and families who are homeless, addicted, and in crisis.” Their goal is to deliver people from addiction, reunite love ones, and merge individuals back into their communities.

The Ronald McDonald House helps to provide stability to families who have to place their complete focus on the health of their children, extending to them a home-away-from-home while their children are being treated. Their mission is to provide and preserve a sense of normalcy for families, allowing families to focus on the health of their children rather than anything else.

The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, while empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity. It is the oldest and also the largest organization in the United States that represents over a million women and children. The YWCA serves 2.3 million people annually and focuses its mission-driven work in three signature areas: Racial Justice and Civil Rights, Empowerment and Economic Advancement of Women and Girls, and Health and Safety of Women and Girls.

Every year the A/C Eng. family comes together to support United Way affiliated charitable organizations, volunteering and donating through the FedEx Cares United Way Campaign. With 200 plus A/C Eng. and other Air Ops employees involved in this effort, we were able to collect more than 300 Purple Totes having an estimated value of over $10,000. These Purple Totes were filled with items that were specifically requested by each organization, providing the greatest possible impact.

Engaging in this yearly effort brings our A/C Eng. community closer together and allows us to bring out the best in ourselves by supporting noble, generous, and important causes that make positive differences for those in need. The annual FedEx Cares United Way Campaign is just one way FedEx Tech Ops A/C Eng. employees stand firmly behind our Purple Promise to ourselves, our community, and the world, giving us the opportunity to encourage others and reinforcing the fact that FedEx Cares!
