St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - FedEx Services Internal Audit Teams (Memphis)
It costs roughly $2.4 million a day to run St. Jude and despite massive corporate partnerships with brands like Target, Kay Jewelers, Chili's Grill & Bar, the majority of funding comes from individual donors like the FedEx Services Internal Audit teams. St. Jude is a happy place even though the families have every reason to be frightened, angry, and nervous. All of the children are made to feel as normal as possible and many of these children look nothing like their former selves while they are undergoing treatment for cancer or other catastrophic diseases. The hospital cafeteria offers just about anything you can think of for kids going through treatment, which can alter their taste buds and cause nausea, making something simple like eating a tricky ordeal. There are more than 85 research labs on the premises and St. Jude freely shares all findings to other organizations worldwide so that doctors and scientists can use that knowledge to help save more children.
Our team was able to help St. Jude by not only donating art kits, coloring books, journals, and playing cards for the patients, but also by giving platelets at the Blood Donor Center. Our team was able to provide two bags of platelets through donation directly on site at St. Jude. Platelets are given during chemo and other treatments at St. Jude and the cost to purchase one bag of platelets is approximately $600. Two Internal Audit teams (Data Analytics and IT Audit) joined together to support St. Jude with different team members coordinating the site visit, giving cash for donation items (100% participation from all team members), shopping for donation items, filling Purple Tote Bags, donating platelets, and of course delivering the filled Purple Tote Bags.
St. Jude has affected our team personally with two team members who are parents of St. Jude patients. From their personal experience, they have seen first-hand how St. Jude not only impacts the lives of the children, but the entire family and have felt the hope that St. Jude gives to patients and their families. FedEx employees are given a wonderful opportunity to give to that hope through FedEx Cares. Please help our team continue to support St. Jude and the mission of their founder Danny Thomas that "no child should die in the dawn of life.”
