Services HR - L&D Team Visits the Carpenter Art Garden
The Services HR – Learning & Development team decided to give back with a day of service by supporting the Carpenter Art Garden and the FedEx Cares United Way Campaign. The Carpenter Art Garden of Memphis began with a belief in the importance of art making and one abandoned property. Through art and with the help of neighborhood children, the grittiness of a blighted lot was transformed into a vibrant garden of artwork. The Carpenter Art Garden offers children in the Binghampton community the tools to create their own "pockets of hope” through ongoing art and gardening projects.
Every Tuesday, the children gather to create art and build relationships, with the help of community volunteers. Our team collected a variety of art supplies, bottled water, and non-perishable snacks, to fill 7 Purple Tote Bags. We spent the afternoon creating different holiday-themed art projects, with over 30 elementary school age children. After our craft time, we distributed snacks for all to enjoy. The L&D team donated all of the art project supplies, in addition to the Purple Tote bag items.
There is no after-school program for art, so the Art Garden also serves as an outdoor classroom. The ability of the Art Garden to offer educational programs depends on community volunteers. Many of the children thanked each member of the L&D team, for helping with the holiday art and for making “Candy Cane Reindeer” most of all! Participating in art activity inspires creativity and encourages the pursuit of further personal growth and development. It’s said that, “life is an artwork in progress”, and the HR L&D team is proud to have made a creative contribution!
