Power of One.. The Purple Hearts continuing the Power of One with Memphis Union Mission
Many of us have family and friends who are or have been homeless. Our team, from Memphis, TN, have expressed their great desire to give back to charities that help the homeless, because losing your home and support network can happen to anyone! It was because of this urge to help the homeless that our team chose the Memphis Union Mission as the charity to assist. .
Memphis Union Mission provides a safe, clean shelter for the homeless community of Memphis. They also provide Day Shelter to provide the homeless with access MUM services, and helps to discourage loitering. Guest receive hot showers with soap and shampoo every day and clean clothing. Currently Memphis has a partnership with Christ Community Health Services and Baptist Memorial Healthcare, to provide free healthcare to the homeless. Extended Stay is available to those who qualify, these include smaller, quieter dorm rooms and a positive environment for those who have demonstrated greater initiative and responsibility.
They also provide a one-year intensive residential recovery program for men and Moriah House for women and children. Moriah House is primarily for women whose lives have been shattered by domestic abuse, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, and prostitution can receive wholeness and restoration. Moriah House is Memphis Union Mission's long-term recovery program for women and their children. In addition to the many other services, they prove assistance to families. This program provides short-term transitional housing for homeless families.
Memphis Union Mission provides all of these services to individual members of the Memphis homeless community at no cost and operate strictly by the donations of generous people. We became one of the many generous people who helped the mission by delivering a total of 265 Purple Tote Bags filled with hygiene items, coats, sweaters, clothing, and personal hygiene items. The items placed inside our Purple Tote Bags will be a great help to Memphis Union Mission, as they continue the vision that started with one man nearly 45 years ago.
The story of Memphis Union Mission is indeed an excellent example of the POWER of ONE
