CROWD SOARS TO OVER 1000 AT CITY MEN COOK 2017
NORTH TEXAS FATHERS/MENTORS PROVES THAT FATHERS ROCK

Community Mentors, Dads, and Civic leaders gathered Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Gilley’s in Dallas for the 17th Annual City Men Cook event sponsored by FedEx, United States Virgin Islands, John Eagle Honda and FedEx Cares. Over 1000 individuals participated in the event. The event opened with a welcome from Texas native and celebrity host, Kiki “Showtime at the Apollo’ Shepard and celebrity guest, Tony award winning actor, Obba Babatunde.

Chef Cassondra Armstrong lead a team of over 30 men who cooked their favorite dishes ranging from Trucking CEO Jesse Jenkins’ "Nasty Beans" to PQC Quinnitte administrator Maurice West’s chicken tetrazzini to City Men Cook Dad Jerome Harrison's Peach Delight which he labels it as “What peach cobbler wants to be when it grows up”. FedEx Services Sales Executives Cleo Hayden, John Collins, Vincent Bradford, Byron Jackson and FedEx Office center consultant Brenon Cobb showcased their culinary delights representing FedEx Cares.

Celebrity tasters, included Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson, CW33 K.C Fox, former Harlem Globetrotter Kevin Daley, NFL wife Adrianne Springs, entertainment mogul Oscar Joyner who voted on winning categories were given swags bags form Untied Virgin Islands and Miss Jessie’s. Top awards for Best Decoration were given to CakeDaddy Manuel Pruitt, Tatyanna Pickle Palace’s Deshawn Roney and Chef Demarcus Williams. Best Presentation awards went to Chef Karreim Sultan, Veteran City Men Cook Dad - Steve Wesley and Chef Floyd Freeman. Best Recipe Award winners were Gumbo Chef Byron Jackson, Skew U Restaurateur- Andrew Howard and Peach Delight Dad, Jerome Harrison.

FedEx Sales Executive Vincent Bradford served over 680 handmade snow cones to the kids in the crowd. Royal International Miss Central States Teen Trish Pizzica served as the official greeter to the cooks.

The annual culinary soiree, City Men Cook, is the signature event of A Taste of the South Charities, Inc. It is one of the largest urban Father’s Day celebrations in the country.
