FedEx Team Supports 2017 Miles for Melanoma
Special thanks to the almost 20 team members who joined the FedEx sponsored local team to run and volunteer in the Melanoma Research Foundation's Memphis Miles for Melanoma 5K at Shelby Farms on Saturday. The event raised over $35,000 with the support of local sponsors like FedEx as well as personal fundraising. About 400 runners signed up to participate in the event at Shelby Farms and the unseasonably cool weather contributed to a fantastic turn out. Personally, I very much appreciate FedEx's sponsorship and the team member involvement as my father has had melanoma 6 times and our dear friend who chairs this race is a stage 4 melanoma survivor.
More about Melanoma and this event....
Melanoma is the deadliest and fastest growing form of skin cancer and we all want a cure to be found soon. Miles for Melanoma is the way people come together to take action and help support this fight and the mission of the Melanoma Research Foundation.
In a series of 5k run/walk events held around the country, members of the melanoma community raise money, raise awareness and provide each other emotional support to make a difference. You can participate alone or have more fun as part of a team.
Every step matters and every step counts. Significant advancement has been made in the past few years in improved detection, new drug treatments and better survival rates. This progress has been built on the breakthroughs made fighting other types of cancers, as well as the existing foundation of melanoma research.
There is more to be done and a long way to go, but the finish line is in sight. The energy, enthusiasm and encouragement from other patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers, and the medical community impacts many lives and many futures.
