FedEx Keeps Indianapolis Beautiful

FedEx Keeps Indianapolis Beautiful

Employees of FedEx Ground, Smart Post, Express, Freight, Office, and Services were proud to team up with the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. For the 8th Annual FedEx Cares day event celebrating Arbor Day, 93 employees volunteered to plant 77 trees in the Pleasant Run Watershed. This project will improve water quality and increase habitat for native plants and wildlife, creating a beautiful, healthy asset to revitalize the city. It will also help reconnect neighbors to their waterways. Street trees provide many natural benefits like U/V protection, storm water management, and increased wildlife habitats in our urban environment. Our team, with 93 volunteers, contributed over 425 hours of community service to beautifying and benefiting the neighborhoods we work and live in! Over the past eight years, FedEx has helped leverage more than $21 million to support more than 118 NFWF projects across the country.

Whether volunteers were involved with digging a hole, properly placing a tree, planting, proper mulching around the newly planted tree, manning the wheel barrels, distributing water, or picking up the trash, they made a difference. Volunteers also had time to meet a new FedEx friend at a different Operating Company, learn more about sustainability, the importance of water quality, preserving the natural habitat and had some fun! The impact of work was seen immediately and will continue to flourish over time. The city street department even wanted to get in on the act. They showed up and filled pot holes on the streets where trees were planted! In true FedEx fashion, even though we almost doubled our coverage area and added a few more trees from the previous year, we still were able to finish the project early! Next year, we’ll look for a bigger project!
