Boston Ground and Ironstone Farms - Purple Tote Bag Story Contest Finalist

Dec 20, 2016

This year for the FedEx Cares United Way Campaign, the team from Boston Ground decided to help the nonprofit Ironstone Farms by donating and volunteering. In fact, this is the second year Boston Ground has teamed up with Ironstone Farms.

Ironstone Farm's mission is to provide therapy to people with physical, emotional, or cognizant disabilities. The nonprofit organization uses the dynamic power of horseback riding and the environment of a farm to combine several therapies into one highly effective experience. Top doctors and medical institutions refer clients to Ironstone because of its success. It is thanks to Ironstone that children with special needs learn to walk and people who did not speak before – including those on the autism spectrum – begin speaking. Additional therapeutic programs improve the lives of others, including veterans who have experienced trauma, survivors of cancer, teens at risk, young adults with special needs who can benefit from learning life skills, and elders with memory issues. Coming to the 18-acre horse farm, rather than an impersonal clinic, makes therapy a “want to” event rather than a “have to” session.

About 200 volunteers each week come and support the therapeutic riding programs that Ironstone Farms provides. The Boston Ground team was proud to contribute to those numbers, as twenty volunteers from our team stained a gazebo, cleaned up a flower bed at their front entrance, and worked in their lavender garden. Boston Ground also filled approximately 125 tote bags, inside the bags were supplies need for the non profit Ironstone Farms. The bags contained horse supplies, tissues hand warmers (they work outside year round) paper towels, office supplies, hole punch, post it notes, usb drives. Riding helmets, buckets, wheel barrel, riding crops cases of water, tables, and chairs were also donated to Ironstone as well.

The team at Boston Ground did an excellent job providing their time and valued items that will benefit this caring organization.
