Providing help to Genesis Women's Shelter

Dec 8, 2016

Genesis Women’s Shelter was founded in 1984 with a goal to not just help women, but to completely eradicate domestic violence. Their mission is to provide safety, shelter and support for women who have experienced domestic violence and to raise awareness regarding its cause, prevalence and impact. Each year they see 1200 women and children at the Emergency Shelter, Long-Term Housing Facility and Non-Residential Counseling Office. The women who come to them are in a fight for their life. Each person a someone to walk alongside each woman and tell her she is not alone and she deserves to feel safe and happy. It will take all facets of society going in the same direction to invoke real change. For every woman in an abusive situation, there is hope. Any woman, any age, any race, any religion, anywhere can be affected.

It is with the generosity of our Community. Partners Genesis is able to provide shelter and services for women and children. Genesis has never received Federal or State funding, Genesis are a new recipient of United Way this year. When FedEx organized their Purple Tote Bag Drive it was an answer to a pressing need. The donors collected paper products and diapers. This fall there was a higher than normal number children under four (including two new born babies) in our housing facility.

For these reasons, the FedEx Ground Team from Dallas felt it was important to dedicate the FedEx Cares United Way campaign to help the organization and the people they serve. Our team decided to provided close to 2,000 diapers for the families. The comfort and security moms feel when they have necessities for their children is priceless.
