Pittsburgh's Purple Promise Delivers the Power of One
On October 28th, Pittsburgh’s FedEx Services Internal Audit team that supports FedEx Ground and GENCO united to support our local Ronald McDonald House. Since 1974, the Ronald McDonald House has provided vital resources to children and their families being served by leading hospitals with a place that feels like home while also providing access to health care. Pittsburgh’s local chapter services families who live more than 40 miles from Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Our team wanted to give back to those families travelling far from their home by cooking them a hot meal. Together, our team filled 20 Purple Tote Bags full of household items and food for the Ronald McDonald House. In addition, we brought items to make breakfast and lunch for the families for one day.
Shortly before our team started cooking, the Hamburglar was spotted by Purple Grimace trying to steal Internal Audit’s tote bags! Each team member fortunately had items off of the Power of One Dollar Menu: one helping hand; one smile; one meal; one hour of time; one hug; one tote bag; and one laugh. With these tools, our team and Purple Grimace, who proudly represents the Purple Promise, united to stop the Hamburglar. Our spirit of giving and togetherness made him realize that what he had done was wrong. All of the tote bags were returned and our team, along with Grimace and the Hamburglar, were able to cook a delicious breakfast and lunch for the residents. We proved the Power of One - that one person, one team, one day can make a difference.
