FedEx Cares Seattle Spring Project
Teaming Up in South Park
On a blustery spring day, team members in the Seattle market gathered for a FedEx Cares project in support of the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/Technical Advisory Group. They performed general trail maintenance such as clipping blackberry bushes, pulling invasive weeds and removing litter from the 8th Avenue Trail in the South Park neighborhood. This urban trail is a vital connector providing elementary school students access to their local library.
Some volunteers were surprised to learn the Duwamish River is the only river running through the city of Seattle. In addition, this lone river is polluted, and team members were given the opportunity to learn more about the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/Technical Advisory Group, and their mission is to help ensure the cleanup of the Duwamish River, as well as protect fish, wildlife and human health in the community.
Together FedEx volunteers contributed over 90 hours of community service. They also enjoyed meeting one another, as well as students on spring break from the Duwamish Valley Youth Corps. By the end of the day, team members from FedEx Services, FedEx Ground, FedEx Office, FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Trade Networks participated in the successful project. Teaming up, volunteers removed 1620 lbs of weeds and garbage from the Duwamish Valley.
