Successful FedEx Small Business Grant Contest Returns to Hong Kong to Give Small Businesses a Helping Hand in Going Global

HONG KONG, March 16, 2017 — FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, is once again holding its successful FedEx Small Business Grant Contest to help more small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) connect with a world of opportunities.  Following last year’s successful debut, the contest is returning to Hong Kong this year, giving SMEs the opportunity to win a total of HK$230,000 in grants.

The contest is designed to provide SMEs with the inspiration and financial resources to take their business global, helping them grow their footprint and sharpen their competitive edge.  Originally conceived in the U.S. five years ago, the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest went global for the first time in end-2016, with contests in Brazil, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK in addition to the U.S.  This year, the contest makes its debut in mainland China, India and Italy as well.

FedEx and Safe Kids Korea Teach Pedestrian Safety to Elementary Students in IIsan

SEOUL, March 17, 2017— FedEx Express (FedEx) launched the “Mom’s Hand Campaign” together with Safe Kids Korea at the Oma Elementary School in Ilsan on March 16. The Mom’s Hand Campaign aims to promote safe crossing habits among child pedestrians through in-class lessons and experiential learning sessions where children will cross the road holding a yellow sign named “Mom’s Hand”. The Mom’s Hand Campaign will go nationwide in cooperation with the Korean National Police Agency.

During the Mom’s Hand Campaign event more than 200 elementary students participated in three educational sessions: instructional, videos, and practical exercises. A Safe Kids safety lecturer conducted the instructional session on walking safety followed by students watching videos that highlighted three points for defensive walking. Lastly, outdoor practical exercises led by the police and the safety lecturer with FedEx volunteers helping children cross the road safely.

To help commemorate International Women’s Day (March 8), here are five organizations FedEx supports that help empower women and girls around the world:


1.    Vital Voices GROW Fellowship

Vital Voices invests in women leaders who advance economic opportunity around the world. FedEx is investing philanthropic support for the VV GROW Fellowship, a one-year accelerator supporting 65 women-owned businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. The program provides business skills training, technical assistance, leadership development and access to networks, ultimately leading to business growth, inclusive economic growth and wider social benefits.

FedEx Inspires Students Through One-day Job Shadow Program

TOKYO, March 13, 2017—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), conducted a one-day job shadow program for 15 students from Seitoku University Girls High School on March 10 at the FedEx Makuhari office in Mihama-ku, Chiba City.

Since 2007, FedEx has regularly conducted the job shadow program in conjunction with Junior Achievement Japan, an economic education organization, which strives to train young people with the skills they need to go out into the workforce.

During the program, students shadowed FedEx employees responsible for sales, customer service, operations, finance, engineering and vehicle administration. The students learned about FedEx global business, the various employee roles and responsibilities, and the importance of teamwork when providing exceptional customer service.

Budding Entrepreneurs from the Philippines Scoop FedEx Access Award at JA Asia Pacific Company of the Year Competition

HONG KONG, February 23, 2017 — Teenage entrepreneurs in student company Hiraya from the Philippines have won the FedEx Access Award at the JA Asia Pacific Company of the Year Competition finals in Tokyo, Japan. Sponsored by FedEx Express (FedEx), the world’s largest express transportation company, the FedEx Access Award aims to develop participants’ understanding of the value of global access to businesses and communities. The award goes to the team whose business idea is judged to have the highest potential to create jobs, grow small business, expand into other markets and improve the environment.

Team Hiraya came up with the idea of the ‘Pina bag’, a versatile and innovative office bag which makes use of a combination of pineapple fabric and synthetic leather for a durable, high-quality product.
