FedEx supports hundreds of organizations, projects and initiatives that help make life better in the communities where our team members live and where we do business.

To help commemorate International Women’s Day (March 8), here are five organizations FedEx supports that help empower women and girls around the world:

 

1.    Vital Voices GROW Fellowship

Vital Voices invests in women leaders who advance economic opportunity around the world. FedEx is investing philanthropic support for the VV GROW Fellowship, a one-year accelerator supporting 65 women-owned businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. The program provides business skills training, technical assistance, leadership development and access to networks, ultimately leading to business growth, inclusive economic growth and wider social benefits.

FedEx Inspires Students Through One-day Job Shadow Program

TOKYO, March 13, 2017—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), conducted a one-day job shadow program for 15 students from Seitoku University Girls High School on March 10 at the FedEx Makuhari office in Mihama-ku, Chiba City.

Since 2007, FedEx has regularly conducted the job shadow program in conjunction with Junior Achievement Japan, an economic education organization, which strives to train young people with the skills they need to go out into the workforce.

During the program, students shadowed FedEx employees responsible for sales, customer service, operations, finance, engineering and vehicle administration. The students learned about FedEx global business, the various employee roles and responsibilities, and the importance of teamwork when providing exceptional customer service.

Budding Entrepreneurs from the Philippines Scoop FedEx Access Award at JA Asia Pacific Company of the Year Competition

HONG KONG, February 23, 2017 — Teenage entrepreneurs in student company Hiraya from the Philippines have won the FedEx Access Award at the JA Asia Pacific Company of the Year Competition finals in Tokyo, Japan. Sponsored by FedEx Express (FedEx), the world’s largest express transportation company, the FedEx Access Award aims to develop participants’ understanding of the value of global access to businesses and communities. The award goes to the team whose business idea is judged to have the highest potential to create jobs, grow small business, expand into other markets and improve the environment.

Team Hiraya came up with the idea of the ‘Pina bag’, a versatile and innovative office bag which makes use of a combination of pineapple fabric and synthetic leather for a durable, high-quality product.

With more than 400,000 FedEx team members worldwide and millions of customers, diversity seems to be a top priority for FedEx.

From Harlem to Hong Kong, from Sao Paulo to Sydney, the world of FedEx is all about connecting people, places and cultures,” the FedEx website explains. “To meet the needs of a diverse customer base, we reflect that diversity within our organization and celebrate it in communities around the world.”

Pandas Aren’t the Only Rare Breed Aboard the FedEx Panda Express

This month marks the 7th time the FedEx Panda Express has been called into service.

FedEx transported Bao Bao, a three-year-old giant panda, from Washington, D.C. to Chengdu, China on non-stop flight this week via a specially decaled 777-Freighter dubbed the FedEx Panda Express.

In addition to a veterinarian and a panda keeper, Bao Bao was accompanied by FedEx team members you’d expect to see on a typical cargo flight as well as one you might not.
